Backyard Wellness Retreats
Create a Backyard Designed for the Way You Live
Transform your backyard into a private retreat that brings together water, relaxation, recovery and year-round outdoor living. Flagship Pools thoughtfully integrates custom pools and spas with features such as saunas, cold plunges, outdoor showers, water features and inviting spaces to relax — all designed to work together as one cohesive outdoor environment.
More Than a Swimming Pool
A thoughtfully designed backyard can be more than a place to swim. It can become a private outdoor retreat — a place to unwind after a long day, spend time with family, enjoy the outdoors and create routines centered around relaxation and recovery.
At Flagship Pools, we look beyond individual features and consider how the entire backyard works together. Pools and spas can be integrated with saunas, cold plunges, outdoor showers, water features, shade, privacy and comfortable gathering spaces to create an outdoor environment that feels intentional and connected.
The goal isn't simply to add more features. It's to design a backyard where each element has a purpose and the entire space works beautifully together.
Heat. Cold. Water.
A backyard wellness retreat brings together different experiences within one thoughtfully planned outdoor environment. Whether the goal is quiet relaxation, an energizing start to the day or simply spending more time outdoors, each space can be designed around the way you want to use your backyard.
HEAT
Saunas & Spas
Create a dedicated place to warm up, unwind and slow down. A sauna or spa can be thoughtfully positioned within the backyard to provide privacy, convenient access and a natural connection to the pool and surrounding outdoor spaces.
COLD
Cold Plunge
A cold plunge adds a refreshing contrast to the backyard wellness experience. Placement, access, shade, drainage and proximity to the sauna or spa are considered as part of the overall design rather than treating the plunge as a standalone piece of equipment.
WATER
Pools, Showers & Water Features
Water ties the retreat together. A custom pool or remodeled pool can become the centerpiece, complemented by an outdoor shower, tanning ledge, spa, rain wall or other water feature that adds both function and atmosphere to the space.
Designed Around Your Backyard
Every backyard is different. The home, existing pool, available space, sun exposure, neighboring properties and the way your family uses the outdoors all influence how a wellness retreat should come together.
Thoughtful planning considers more than where each feature will fit. We look at how you will move through the space, where you will want privacy and shade, and how the different areas will connect to the pool, patio and home.
Privacy & Placement
Saunas, cold plunges, showers and relaxation areas should feel comfortable and private. Their placement can take advantage of walls, structures, landscaping and the natural layout of the property to create a more secluded retreat.
Shade & Weather
The Texas climate makes shade and weather protection an important part of outdoor design. Covered areas, structures and thoughtful placement can make wellness spaces more comfortable and usable throughout the year.
Utilities & Equipment
Saunas, cold plunges, spas, water features and other amenities may require electrical service, plumbing, drainage or dedicated equipment. Planning those requirements early helps create a cleaner, more integrated finished space.
Flow & Connection
The distance and pathway between the pool, spa, sauna, cold plunge, shower and covered areas matter. A well-planned layout makes moving between each experience feel natural while keeping the backyard open and inviting.
Drainage & Surfaces
Outdoor showers, pools and cold plunges introduce water into areas where safe footing and proper drainage are essential. Decking and surrounding surfaces should be selected and planned with both appearance and function in mind.
Lighting & Controls
Thoughtful lighting can transform the retreat after sunset while improving visibility throughout the space. Pool, spa, landscape and feature controls can also be considered as part of a convenient, connected outdoor environment.
Start New or Reimagine What You Have
A backyard wellness retreat can begin with a new pool design or evolve around a pool you already own. In either case, considering the entire backyard allows the different spaces and features to feel connected rather than added one at a time.
BUILDING A NEW POOL?
Design the Entire Backyard from the Beginning
A new pool provides the opportunity to think beyond the water's edge from the very beginning. The pool, spa, decking, water features and wellness spaces can be planned together with circulation, privacy, shade, utilities and future additions in mind.
The result is a backyard designed as one complete outdoor environment — not simply a pool with features added around it later.
ALREADY HAVE A POOL?
Reimagine the Backyard You Already Have
An existing pool can become the centerpiece of an entirely new outdoor experience. A renovation may provide the opportunity to update the pool while rethinking the surrounding deck, spa, water features, lighting and outdoor spaces.
Adding a sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower, privacy feature or relaxation area can extend that transformation beyond the pool itself and create a backyard better suited to the way you live today.
A Backyard Wellness Retreat Concept
From an Existing Backyard to a Private Wellness Retreat
What could happen if an existing pool and patio became the starting point for something more?
This Flagship design concept explores the transformation of an existing backyard by bringing together a pool, spa, sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower and water feature within one connected outdoor environment.
The concept centers around a rain wall positioned along the pool, creating both a dramatic water feature and a sense of separation between the swimming area and a more private wellness space beyond. Behind the wall, a covered sauna and cold plunge area creates a quieter retreat, with an outdoor shower nearby and convenient access back to the pool and spa.
A tanning ledge extends the pool experience toward the rain wall, while the new structure is designed to complement the architecture of the existing covered patio. Privacy, shade, circulation and the relationship between each space are considered together rather than treating each feature as a separate addition.
The idea is simple: start with the backyard you have and imagine how the entire space could work differently.
Create a Retreat That Fits the Way You Live
No two backyard wellness retreats need to look—or function—the same. The right combination of features depends on your property, your existing outdoor spaces and how you want to use your backyard throughout the year.
Saunas
Traditional and infrared sauna options can be incorporated with thoughtful attention to privacy, weather protection and convenient access to the pool, spa and cold plunge.
Spas
Integrated into a new pool or incorporated into an existing backyard, a spa creates a comfortable place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors throughout the year.
Water Features
Rain walls, waterfalls and other water features can create movement and sound while helping define spaces, enhance privacy and add atmosphere..
Privacy & Shade
Covered structures, screens, walls and landscaping can create more comfortable, secluded spaces while providing protection from the Texas sun.
Cold Plunges
Freestanding or integrated cold plunges can be planned around comfortable access, shade, drainage, equipment needs and their relationship to other wellness spaces.
Outdoor Showers
Conveniently positioned between the pool, sauna and cold plunge, an outdoor shower adds both practical function and a resort-inspired touch.
Tanning & Relaxation Ledges
Shallow-water ledges create inviting places to lounge, cool off or relax while remaining connected to the pool and surrounding retreat.
Lighting & Automation
Thoughtful lighting extends the experience after sunset, while compatible controls can simplify the operation of pools, spas and other outdoor features.
The Flagship Approach
Design the Environment, Not Just the Features
A great backyard doesn't come from simply adding more things to it. It comes from understanding how the pool, home and outdoor spaces should work together.
At Flagship Pools, we begin with the entire backyard. Whether we're designing a new pool or reimagining an existing one, we consider how each element relates to the next — from the pool and spa to wellness features, water features, decking, lighting, shade and gathering spaces.
That means thinking about the details that can make a significant difference in the finished backyard: how you move through the space, where you want privacy, how utilities and equipment can be incorporated, and how the design complements your home.
The result is a backyard that feels intentional, connected and uniquely yours — designed not only around how it looks, but around how you want to live in it.
Imagine What Your Backyard Could Become
Your backyard should reflect the way you want to live — whether that means relaxing in the spa at the end of the day, moving between a sauna and cold plunge, enjoying time around the pool with family, or simply having a more private and inviting place to spend time outdoors.
Whether you're starting with a new pool or reimagining an existing backyard, Flagship Pools can help you explore the possibilities and develop a plan that brings the entire outdoor environment together.
